She moved to Washington, D.C. with her family when she was two years old. Yeardley Smith began her acting career in 1982 after graduating from drama school and made her Broadway debut in Tom Stoppard's "The Real Thing."
In 1987, she auditioned for the role of Bart Simpson but was cast as Lisa instead due to her high-pitched voice. Her performance as Lisa Simpson has earned her critical acclaim and a Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Voice-Over Performance in 1992.
