Sugarpop Member and “DOTA O Ako” Singer Vanessa Blanca Dies at 30

The Philippine music industry is mourning the loss of singer Vanessa Blanca Quillo Rangadhol, better known as Vanessa Blanca, who passed away on August 19, 2026, at the age of 30 following an accident in Manila. The heartbreaking news was confirmed by her cousin, Ivy Ann Salaum Jubelag, through a social media post.

According to the family's statement, Vanessa Blanca suffered a severe traumatic brain injury and internal brain hemorrhage after an accidental fall inside the condominium where she had been staying. Reports indicated that she slipped while getting dressed in the bathroom and struck her face and head on the floor. Despite immediate efforts to seek medical assistance, she later succumbed to her injuries.

Vanessa Blanca first rose to prominence as a member of Sugarpop, a popular youth singing group formed from finalists of the 2005 television talent competition Pop Star Kids. The group also included future stars Julie Anne San Jose, Rita Daniela, Enzo Almario, and Pocholo (Cholo) Bismonte. Through Sugarpop, Vanessa became known to audiences for her singing talent and vibrant stage presence.

She later gained wider recognition through the novelty hit “DOTA O Ako,” a song recorded with rapper and songwriter Aikee. Released during the height of the online gaming phenomenon Defense of the Ancients (DOTA), the track humorously depicted a man's struggle to choose between his girlfriend and his favorite game. The song became a memorable part of Filipino pop culture in the early 2010s and remains popular among many gaming and music fans.

In 2021, Vanessa Blanca reunited with Aikee for “DOTA At Ako,” a sequel released in collaboration with Netflix Philippines. At the time, she expressed excitement about working with her longtime collaborator again after a decade apart, describing the project as a meaningful reunion and a chance to reconnect with fans who remembered their original hit.

Born on December 6, 1995, Vanessa Blanca leaves behind a legacy that spans from her childhood success in Sugarpop to her enduring popularity as the voice behind one of the country's most recognizable gaming-themed songs. Her passing has deeply saddened fans across generations who grew up listening to her music.

A public viewing for Vanessa Blanca was announced to be held at Loyola Memorial Chapels in Commonwealth, Quezon City, while family members have requested privacy as they grieve their loss.
